Established in 1995, The Allen Conservatory of Dance offers the finest in classical ballet instruction.  The curriculum also includes modern, tap and jazz to supplement our students' dance education.

Located in Allen Towne center, the Allen Conservatory of Dance offers

•  A specially constructed dance floor

•  Bi-level barres

•  Waiting areas with two observation     windows

•  Highly qualified teaching staff.

Dance promotes strength, coordination, discipline and self esteem.  Performing provides dancers of all ages the joy of accomplishing their goals, and the Allen Conservatory of Dance holds a dance recital for all students at the end of each school year.

such prestigious programs as:

• San Francisco Ballet
• Joffrey Ballet
• Pacific Northwest Ballet
• Boston Ballet


The Allen Conservatory of Dance is the official school of the Allen Civic Ballet.


The Allen Consevatory of Dance donates rehearsal space to Allen Civic Ballet. Membership in the company is determined by open audition at the beginning of each season. 

Allen Civic Ballet presents the Nutcracker ballet each December, and the Allen Dance Festival each spring, along with several other performances.

Stefanie Best

Artistic Director Stefanie M. Best has studied classical ballet at Southern Methodist University and Houston Ballet Academy.  She studied ten years with Nathalie Krassovska, former prima ballerina of the Ballet Russes de Monte Carlo and the London Festival Ballet. She has performed with the Garland Ballet, North Houston Dance Theatre, the Irving Ballet, the Dallas Opera and Krassovska Ballet Jeunesse.

Stefanie has danced in such classics as The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Giselle, Paquita, Pas de Quatre, Chopiniana and Nutcracker, as well as numerous contemporary works.  She holds a B.A. and B.F.A. from Southern Methodist University and an M.A. in Dance from the University of Houston at Clear Lake.  Ms. Best has been teaching all ages and levels of dance since 1985, and is the president and artistic director of Allen Civic Ballet.

 


Allyne Gartrell

Allyne D. Gartrell, a native of Atlanta, GA brings twenty years of experience to the art of dance. A graduate of the Dekalb Center for the Performing Arts in Atlanta, Allyne also attended Florida A&M University and Florida State University where he excelled in Instrumental Music and Dance.

As a dancer Allyne has worked with Joel Hall Dance Theatre, Ballethnic Dance Company, Ballet Wisconsin, City Ballet Theatre, and for seven years he was one of the Lead Male Dances for the Internationally known Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, where he served as Company Instructor and Rehearsal Director for DCDC II. While at DCDC Allyne danced the ballets of Alvin Ailey, Donald McKayle, Talley Beatty, Ulysses Dove, and Donald Byrd to name a few. Broadway credits include: The Wiz, A Chorus Line, Sophisticated Ladies, and his latest appearance in Porgy & Bess playing the role of Crown. Allyne also served as assistant to the Tony Award Winning Choreographer Hope Clark, for the production of Porgy & Bess which premiered at the Kennedy Center for the Arts.

Over the past decade Allyne has become one of the most recognized master teachers in the country, known for his high energy, & physically demanding jazz and modern classes. His pulsating choreography has been featured on several dance companies and Universities including, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, Milwaukee Dance Connection, DCDC II, Morgan State University Modern Dance Ensemble, Spellman College, City College of San Francisco, Lincoln University, and Orchesis Contemporary Dance Theatre of Grambling State University. In 2006 Allyne premiered a new Ballet “Primary Movements” in collaboration with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, with an original score composed by classical composer Jonathan Bailey Holland, for the kick-off of the Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s 30th Anniversary Celebration.

In 1999 Allyne founded the Arts Unlimited Project and the Milwaukee Dance Connection a non­profit multi-cultural organization, focused on the preservation of the art of Dance and African American Culture in the city of Milwaukee WI. In 2004 Allyne was recognized for his contribution to at risk youth in the mid-west by Senator Russ Fiengold, and was awarded the 2004 AKA Trail Blazer Award for outstanding community service. Allyne is a member of the International Association of Blacks in Dance, National Performing Arts Guild and for the past ten years has served as the Scholarship Chairman for the Black College Dance Exchange, a coalition of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Most recently Allyne was inducted into the 2009 Presidential Edition of Who’s Who in the Arts, awarded the Dallas Black Dance Theatre 2009 Artist Award, and in December of 2009 Allyne was featured in Dallas Modern Luxury Magazine as one of the Artists in Dallas to look out for in 2010.

 


Mary Muller

Mary Muller received scholarships to the School of American Ballet and Texas Christian University, from which she received a BFA in dance. She went on to dance professionally at Ballet Dallas, Ballet San Jacinto, and Joan Karff’s New Dance Group.

Her experience includes such roles as Swanilda, Black Swan, Snow Queen, Sugar Plum Fairy and other parts in such ballets as Les Sylphides, Sleeping Beauty, La Boutique Fantasque, Don Quixote, Faust and Pas de Quatre.

 

 


John Laverty John Laverty is a full-time dance instructor and has been teaching beginning Ballroom, Latin and Swing Dancing in the Dallas area for over twelve years.

He is currently on staff at Richland College and has been instructing group classes in both Ballroom and Latin Dancing for the Dallas Community Community College District since 2001.

He has conducted both group and private dance lessons and has also choreographed many dances for weddings and showcases as well. John has also hosted ballroom showcases involving his students where he has produced, directed and choreographed ballroom dances for public entertainment.

John's dance background also includes ballet and has performed in many ballet productions since 1996. He has also been a member of the Allen Conservatory of Dance since 2004.
